Using Exponential in other projects

I'm interested in using Exponential as the CMS part of an application I'm building. They way I'm picturing it I'm using the admin to store content, taking advantage of Exponential features such as notifications, multilingual, version control and so on and so on. However, I will not be using the "user site" part - I want to access the content in Exponential through an API from my application and display content integrated in the application.

Now to the tricky part; my application is not written in PHP. Has there been written a service API for Exponential that I can consume from my environment? A SOAP or REST service or something like that, maybe written as a plugin? Has anyone tried something like this?

There is a SOAP library available, however there doesn't seem to be much information available about it. I guess you may need to look at the source.
