Download, install, and boot any Exponential product in minutes. No database server required. 7x releases four new Starter Distributions tuned for SQLite and ready to run out of the box.
7x is thrilled to announce the availability of four brand new Starter Distributions for the Exponential Platform ecosystem. Each one is a pre-configured, ready-to-boot installation fine-tuned for SQLite — meaning no external database server is needed to get started. Clone, install, boot.
That is it.
Whether you are building on the classic standalone kernel, the modern Symfony new stack, or the full dual-kernel Legacy Bridge, there is now a starter distribution designed specifically for your entry point.
Exponential Starter Distribution (ESD) — v1.0.0.0
The Exponential Starter Distribution is a ready-to-run installation of Exponential 6.0.13 preconfigured for immediate use with a bundled SQLite database. The database file lives at var/storage/sqlite3/starter.db — no server, no setup wizard, no migration scripts needed before your first login. The default admin password in the preconfigured database is publishing. PHP, Composer, and a web server are the only requirements. Ideal for local development, evaluation, demos, and air-gapped deployments.
Exponential Platform Legacy Starter Distribution (EPLSD) — v1.0.0.0
The Platform Legacy Starter Distribution delivers the full Exponential Platform Legacy v5 dual-kernel experience out of the box — Symfony 7.4 LTS on the outside, the complete classic eZ Publish legacy kernel on the inside via the se7enxweb/legacy-bridge package, all configured and running from first boot.
Out of the box you get three fully working siteaccesses: the modern Symfony/Twig front end at /, the classic legacy front end at /legacy_site/, and the classic legacy admin interface at /legacy_admin/ — alongside the Platform v5 Admin UI at /adminui/, REST API v2, and GraphQL. SQLite is the default database configuration. No server required. Default credentials: admin / publish. Supports PHP 8.3+, MySQL 8.0+, MariaDB 10.3+, PostgreSQL 14+, and SQLite 3.35+.
Exponential Platform Nexus Starter Distribution (EPNSD) — v1.0.0.0
The Platform Nexus Starter Distribution is the 7x fork and customisation of the Netgen Media Site blueprint for Ibexa DXP v5 Open Source Edition, running on Symfony 7.4 LTS with PHP 8.4+ (tested on PHP 8.5). It ships with Netgen Layouts 2.0.x, Netgen Content Browser, Netgen Information Collection, Netgen Ibexa Site API, Netgen Tags, and the full Netgen toolkit — all wired up, all working, SQLite by default.
This is the most feature-rich starter in the ecosystem. It includes 7x-maintained forks that resolve upstream PHP 8.4 / Twig 3.24 / Webpack Encore 5.x incompatibilities so you get a clean, working build from the first yarn install. Note: Node.js 22 is required for this distribution. Default credentials: admin / publish.
Exponential Platform DXP Starter Distribution (EPDSD) — v1.0.0.0
The Platform DXP Starter Distribution is a clean, forward-only new-stack skeleton for Exponential Platform DXP v5 on Symfony 7.4 LTS with PHP 8.3+. No Legacy Bridge, no classic kernel — just the pure Platform v5 OSS DXP content engine with Twig templates, REST API v2, GraphQL, JWT authentication, and the React-powered Admin UI at /adminui/. SQLite is the default database configuration. The simplest entry point for teams starting fresh on the modern Symfony stack. Default credentials: admin / publish.
Which Starter is Right for You?
Exponential Starter — Standalone legacy kernel, PHP 8.1–8.5, SQLite default, classic admin only. Best for classic Exponential 6.x evaluation and development.
Platform Legacy Starter — Symfony 7.4 + full Legacy Bridge, PHP 8.3+, SQLite default, both legacy admin and Platform v5 Admin UI, REST API v2 and GraphQL. Best for teams running or migrating existing eZ Publish sites.
Platform DXP Starter — Symfony 7.4 new stack only, PHP 8.3+, SQLite default, Platform v5 Admin UI, REST API v2 and GraphQL. Best for teams starting fresh on the modern stack with no legacy requirements.
Platform Nexus Starter — Symfony 7.4 + full Netgen toolkit, PHP 8.4+, SQLite default, Platform v5 Admin UI, Netgen Layouts, REST API v2 and GraphQL. Best for production-grade media and editorial sites requiring the full Netgen ecosystem.
